Overview tests

Good spatial intelligence: indispensable in many technical jobs

Spatial insight is part of general reasoning skills and enables you to correctly estimate relationships between elements such as distances and volumes. Spatial insight is therefore crucial for safe driving in drivers, or for forklift drivers to carry out tasks efficiently. A technical draftsman or architect without good spatial insight cannot produce good designs. And a worker who has to pack parts needs good spatial insight to quickly choose the right packaging for a series of objects.
You can use the tests to assess both 2D and 3D ability.

The Spatial Aptitude Test measures spatial understanding through the imagination of two-dimensional figures.

Candidates have to form a figure by finding the two pieces that make up that figure.

SAT is especially useful for technical jobs such as electricians, machine operators, mechanics, engineers or technical draftsmen.

COVAT SPACE OL measures spatial awareness and maps both 2D and 3D imagination. The test was created in collaboration with Thomas More college.

In COVAT SPACE OL, candidates have to perform two types of tasks. In the first exercise, figures must be mentally rotated (2D ability); in the second exercise, geometric figures, such as cubes, must be folded (3D ability).

The COVAT SPACE OL is used in jobs that require good visual intelligence or correct interpretation of plans, such as architects, spatial planning staff, technical draftsmen, machine operators, engineers and technicians.

The ORIENT test measures candidates’ spatial orientation ability. When navigating a space, it is important to be able to orientate easily.

Candidates have to follow a route on the screen and then indicate how many times they had to turn right and left to complete the route.

ORIENT is important for jobs that require good orientation, such as truck drivers, forklift drivers, parcel deliverers and warehouse workers.

How well can a person’s mental imagination convert a 2D imagination into a 3D projection? The SPACE test measures spatial intelligence.

The test asks questions about unfolded geometric figures. Each time, the candidate has to fold the figure into a 3D image in his or her mind to solve the question.

Spatial intelligence is important for jobs that require trying to imagine a space, device or place as accurately as possible, such as for architects, spatial planning employees, technical draughtsmen, machine operators, engineers and technicians.
