Can candidates recognise information that is partially hidden or poorly visible ? The DEGRADed stimuli test assesses candidates’ observation skills by measuring how quickly and accurately they can identify camouflaged stimuli. The test measures both the speed with which familiar patterns can be reconstructed and the flexibility with which information is retrieved.

Candidates have to find a mark on a screen full of unstructured information. So they need to focus on the goal (the correct grade) and not be distracted by other forms.

Can candidates respond quickly and correctly to complex stimuli? The REAC test appeals to different attention abilities: divided attention, working memory, concentration and processing speed.

Candidates have to respond as quickly as possible to screens showing different road signs. On each screen, they must report the appearance of three identically shaped signs or a STOP sign. This test requires the ability to process instructions and then recognise and categorise stimuli quickly.

Can candidates quickly observe visually complex information ? The OBSERV (long version) and OBSERV A (short version) tests measure whether candidates can quickly find discrepancies in the composition of a figure and in the logic of a set of figures. These tests assess candidates’ ability to quickly construct a logical unit in a group of figures and find discrepancies or errors.

In the OBSERV tests, candidates are given a series of figures and have to determine which figure differs from the others. In the longer test version, candidates are also given short stories in the form of comic strips. The first screen shows a comic strip in which two pictures are not correctly arranged. Candidates have to indicate which of the two pictures is incorrectly arranged.

The OBSERV tests are used for jobs where it is important to notice anomalies quickly, such as with security guards, technical operators, nurses and healthcare professionals.

Can candidates remember stimuli selectively? The POLICE test measures candidates’ selective attention and memory for rapidly displayed images.

Candidates are shown traffic signs: some signs appear, sometimes followed by a policeman. They have to remember the road sign that appeared before the last policeman shown. This test also measures whether candidates are able to consciously forget a particular stimulus: one or more policemen may appear in a sequence. Candidates must then remember the road sign that appeared just before the last officer, and erase from memory the road sign they remembered first. The POLICE test thus requires good concentration and a strong short-term memory.

The POLICE test is useful for occupations that require paying attention to specific signals in a dynamic environment, such as guards, machine operators and drivers.

Looking for someone who can quickly and appropriately control technical processes? The Operator Control Task measures the ability to quickly and correctly apply instructions related to a control panel.

The test simulates a control room in which as many control commands as possible must be carried out correctly on the control panel within the time limit.

The OCT is used with operators, people who have to control machines, traffic controllers and security and surveillance officers.

Can candidates stay alert during monotonous tasks? The ALERT B test measures whether a person can maintain the same level of attention for long periods of time and thus be able to notice a sudden change in a monotonous flow of information.

In ALERT B, light grey numbers from 0 to 9 appear consecutively in the centre of a black screen in a continuous loop. Candidates should press the space bar as soon as possible when a digit in the sequence is missing (e.g. 4−5−6−8: the digit 7 is missing).

ALERT B is useful for professions where vigilance plays an important role in a monotonous context, such as security and surveillance agents, customs officers and drivers.
